Welcome to Holden Village

Holden Village is a Lutheran ministry, nestled in a forested valley at 3,200 feet in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington state. The Village welcomes people of all ages, ethnicities, faiths and backgrounds, offering modest yet comfortable amenities in a wilderness setting.

Each guest and staff bed in the Village is covered with a handmade quilt made by Holdenites near and far. Every quilt in the Village tells a story and is a piece of Holden history in its own right. Find out more on the Quilts page.

What’s New

WOMEN'S RETREAT TO RETURN IN 2017: Because the forest is still closed to the public and this year’s small winter staff levels cannot support guests, the 2016 Women's Retreat has been cancelled. The ever-popular event is scheduled to return in 2017. The Forest Service continues to assess known and unknown post-fire risks around the Village, and Winter Villagers are limited to those willing and able to make longer-term commitments and tolerate flexible arrival/departure dates. The Village longs to welcome back visitors, and plans to offer guest opportunities in the summer of 2016. Watch for registration information on our website, our Facebook page, and in our monthly Be-Holden email newsletters. Thank you for your patience and continual support of Holden Village.

BAER REPORT RELEASED: The US Forest Service has issued the BAER report (Burned Area Emergency Response) for the Wolverine Fire. First and foremost, there is nothing in the report of which we were not aware. We have been working with the Forest Service and Rio Tinto on increased safety precautions and early warnings. Secondly, we have purposely established a smaller resident community for this fall and winter, members of which understand the risks and can be flexible. We will carefully watch and be with Holden in its first winter since the fire.
