POSTION SUMMARY

This position is open year round. Performs a variety of tasks throughout the village that involve manual labor! Helps keep the village safe and functioning in so many ways!

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

(principal duties and responsibilities; such as categories supported, staff size, volume managed, etc)

  • Lifting, carrying, loading and unloading.
  • Hauling of luggage, wood and other items.
  • In the winter, this position involves significant snow stomping and shoveling.
  • Work is usually outdoors and often dirty.
  • The Mavericks will be split into different sectors of work for Summer 2024. The three sectors are the following:
    1. Wood Yarding/Rigging Crew – works on securing wood with Heavy Equipment Operator and Porch Project Head on the road. This will be worked on consistently from late May to late July. Short Term Mavericks here three or more weeks will have the potential to be trained on this. 
    2. Wood Processing Crew – runs the woodlot and manages chainsaw maintenance. Short Term Mavericks here three or more weeks will have the potential to be trained on this. 
    3. In-Village Maverick Crew – manages in-village responsibilities such as green slips, departmental support, luggage transport, maverick duties. This crew will be made up of Short Term Mavericks here less than three weeks. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

• Physical strength to lift and haul items weighing at least 50 pounds.
• Significant physical stamina.
• Maintains enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
• Ability to work independently and with a team.
• Willingness to work outdoors most of the time.

Education

Holden Village is a community where your questions are valued and encouraged. Most programs led by visiting teaching faculty occur during the summer months. However, Holden also invites faculty to teach sessions for special events and retreats throughout the rest of the year.
