POSTION SUMMARY

The primary role of the Village Medic is to provide health care for villagers on a 24/5 on-call basis, within the bounds of established policies and protocols and within the guidelines of their professional licensure. Further, the Medic provides education to the staff about health and safety, particularly in the realm of communicable disease issues. The Medic manages all aspects of the First Aid Station and assist in any medical treatment necessary by in-Village staff. Holden Village’s current caretaking team consists of less than 12 people at one time. The Medic would be an addition to this very small community. Holden Village is currently unable to host guests, so the Medic should be comfortable working in a remote location with a very small community.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provider of ambulatory care
    • Maintain regular office hours at the First Aid Station so that routine care is readily accessible.

    • Determine, in consultation with the Village Incident Commander (who coordinates emergency response efforts), whether an injured/ill person needs to be evacuated from the village.

    • Serve on the Village Safety Committee
    • Develop and implement health and wellness initiatives in the community as you see fit. These may include mental health focus topics, communicative disease education, bloodborne pathogen awareness, and more. Collaborate with the Risk and Safety Lead to implement these initiatives.
