Holy Week & Easter

March 29 - April 5

Holden Village recognizes Lent, Holy week, and Easter with a wide array of special programming. While celebrating its Lutheran roots, Holden Village draws from a variety of traditions and embraces the intellectual, spiritual, and emotional aspects of faith. Join Holden this spring as the community explores the season through the lens of justice.

Holy week begins with Palm Sunday and a procession from Chalet Hill to Koinonia, remembering Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Other events during the week may include:

  • Chamily vespers – (a portmanteau of Chalet and Family), where staff invite others into their homes for reading and discussion.
  • Food for Thought – An intentional conversation about social justice activism around the meal table.
  • Sung Vespers – Using a traditional Holden Service such as Vespers ’86 or a newer liturgy.
  • Maundy Thursday – Foot washing and communion.
  • Prayer Around the Cross – A service of prayer and meditation.

The week will be capped with a Saturday Vigil, feature dramatic bible readings, and an Easter Sunday service, egg hunt, and feast meal.
