19. What is a cohort?

1. Will I need to be vaccinated to come to Holden? Full vaccination is required for all staff, guests, and teaching faculty in age groups eligible to be vaccinated. Currently, this includes everyone ages 12 and up.

2. Can I register if I am not currently vaccinated, but plan to be before arriving? If you are not yet vaccinated but anticipate that you will be by the time of your visit (including the waiting period after your full vaccination), you may make a reservation. However, please note that you will be asked to cancel your reservation in advance if you do not receive full vaccination by the time you arrive. Your guest deposit is fully refundable if you cancel 30 or more days in advance of the start of your visit.

3. Should I travel to Holden if I am fully vaccinated, but fall into a high-risk category? According to CDC guidelines, even if you are fully vaccinated you should still avoid travel if you fall into one of the high-risk categories. As the health and safety of our guests will always be our number one priority, we urge you to reconsider a trip to Holden this summer if you fall into one of the high-risk categories found here.

4. If I had a reservation that was canceled in 2020 due to COVID, do I get priority for 2021 registration? Summer 2021 reservations will be first-come, first-served, just like in a typical year. Unfortunately, we are unable to give priority to those who had 2020 reservations.

5. Should I book my own boat tickets through Lady of the Lake? Do I need to buy a parking pass? This is a change! This year, both boat tickets and Fields Point parking passes are included in the packaged deal as part of the price of staying in the Village. Holden will communicate your dates and party size to the boat, and the boat will send you a separate confirmation email.

6. What time does the boat leave Fields Point headed toward Holden Village? Boat transport will be via the Lady of the Lake boat, departing Field’s Point on Mondays at 9:45 a.m. and arriving at Lucerne at 11:45 a.m. On Saturday it will depart Lucerne at 10:30 a.m. and arrive at Field’s Point at 12:45 p.m.

7. If I need to change or cancel my reservation, should I also let the boat company know? There’s no need to directly contact the boat company. Communicate to Registration (registrar@holdenvillage.org) and they will do all of the coordination with the boat!

8. If I’m hiking into the Village rather than taking the boat, do I still need to pay for the boat ticket as part of my reservation? If I’m not parking at Fields Point, do I still need to pay for the Fields Point parking pass as part of my Village reservation? Yes, the cost of the ticket and the parking pass is folded into every reservation. If you are hiking but interested in taking the boat one-way, please contact Registration at registrar@holdenvillage.org.

9. Are there other options besides arriving on Monday and departing on Saturday? In order to keep our processes safe and smooth during this unique summer, the cohort model is the only way to book a stay at Holden village.

10. What if I need to arrive late or depart early during my cohort week? Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate late arrivals or early departures. Exceptions can be made in the case of an emergency.

11. What if I want to stay for longer than 5 nights? Can I register for 2 cohort weeks in a row and stay at Holden over the weekend between them? You may register for two cohort weeks in a row for a total of $1540 per adult. This includes the cost of two cohorts ($700 x 2) plus $140 to cover the costs of food and lodging over the weekend. There is limited space available for guests to stay two consecutive cohorts.

12. Can I stay for 3 or more cohort weeks? Due to capacity limitations that already reduce the number of people that we can welcome to Holden Village this summer, we cannot accommodate guests wishing to stay for three or more consecutive cohorts. If you are interested in being at Holden for longer than two weeks, please consider applying to be a Short Term or Seasonal Volunteer.

13. Why are there no reduced rates for families or groups as there have been in the past? We can only register a limited number of people per week this summer and are unable to offer discounts from previous summers.

14. How will programming and Village life be different from a “typical” summer? We have an incredible line-up of teaching faculty this summer, and we’ll continue to host worship and community fellowship practices. We also intend to fully utilize our beautiful outdoor spaces as places to gather. The community of guests and staff present in the Village will be smaller than a typical summer. We hope this smaller community creates a special opportunity for you to engage and grow connections with your fellow Villagers!

15. Why will children's/youth program enrollment be confirmed later? Holden Village continues to follow local, state, and federal protocols for remaining safe and healthy. Protocols for youth camps have not yet been released by the Washington Department of Health, so we do not yet know our constraints around the youth programs. The presence of youth enriches the Village, and we are looking forward to designing meaningful programming within the limited capacity of this unique summer.

16. I would like to pass through the Village as a hiker. Can I ride Holden transport? Can I pay for meals or a shower in the Village? Can I book a night in the Village? We are offering rides up and down from Lake Chelan on Holden transport for hikers, although capacity may be limited compared to past summers. Hikers will not be able to enter any of the buildings as a safety precaution, but there will be a system to purchase a meal to go. We are unable to offer laundry, showers, or booked stays for through-hikers. We will be running our transport on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Please visit the Hiking and Recreation page to request space on transport and/or meals in advance of your trip.

17. Will the Holden Village Bed and Breakfast be open this summer? Yes, the Holden B&B will be opening on May 14th for guests! You can make a reservation by calling 509-687-9695 or emailing bandb@holdenvillage.org. New this year - The entire B&B can be rented out by a family or small group for a 2-night minimum stay at $450/night. See more here. (link to b&b page on the HV website.)

18. When can I register for dates beyond summer 2021? Registration is now open for early fall (September 5 - October 31, 2021). We will be updating our plans for beyond October 31st on the website. Please check for regular updates.

19. What is a cohort? A cohort refers to the people who register for the same 5-day stay, arriving on the same Monday and departing on the following Saturday. You don't need to form a group ahead of time because you will be part of a cohort with everyone else who registers for your week.
