Stock Gifts to Holden via the ELCA Foundation

The ELCA Foundation does simple pass through gifts of stock to Lutheran organizations like Holden. As a donor, you can instruct your broker to transfer your desired number of shares of your desired stock to the ELCA Foundation, along with the following information which tells the broker where to transfer the funds:

Wells Fargo Advisors
DTC Clearing #0141
FBO Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Account #5103-9400

The ELCA Foundation immediately sells, subtracts a fee of 16 cents per share for the broker and transaction fee (minimum of $25 and maximum of $250) and sends a check to Holden for the remainder.

If, however, you would like your broker to have a commission and if the ELCA Foundation has an account with your broker, you can instruct the broker to transfer the shares to the ELCA Foundation with that company. You can call first to see if we have an account with that company and the account information. Please note, however, that the costs are higher as it will also include that’s company’s fee.

In either case, it is important that you send a letter to the ELCA Foundation to inform the staff what shares to look for and where to send the proceeds.

In this letter, include the following information: “on (date) I authorized my broker to transfer x number of shares of (name of stock) to the ELCA’s Wells Fargo Advisors (or the other company, if they use their own company). Please send the proceeds to Holden Village.” Include a signature and phone number on the letter.

The note should be addressed to:
