LILI GOERZEN: Holden "Elfchen"

September 23, 2016 at 9:22 AM

My Holden "Elfchen"

tired
from traveling
I arrived here
my soul in Europe
still

trying
to adapt
who am I
at this special place
now?

mountains
gorgeous creation
filled with wonder
I embrace the beauty
stunned

enjoying
work outside
lawns and gardens
seeing the changing results
satisfaction

hiking
soul's recovery
celebration of friendship
swimming in the lake
fun

tears
touching moments
hugs and prayer
God is among us
community

carrying
with me
suitcase of impressions
thank you very much
Holden

Lili Goerzen served as a short-term volunteer on the Lawns and Gardens team this summer. She traveled to the Village from Germany and introduced Holdenites to the "Elfchen" poem form, where each stanza has eleven ("elf") words split in a pattern among five lines.
