Short-Term Volunteer Opportunities
Holden Village relies on short-term volunteers to support and sustain the core mission and life of the Village. Each year, over 500 volunteers journey up the mountain to join in Village life and support Holden’s ministry.
Hundreds of people come through the Village during the summer season (roughly May through September), and this is the time of year when there is the widest variety of jobs and the highest need for staff. However, we have openings year-round and especially need volunteers in the spring and fall.
The summer season runs from approximately mid-April through mid-October. We begin processing applications for summer volunteers in January of that year. Work areas are filled based on the needs of the Village. While the majority of staff positions between October 15 and April 15 are filled by long-term staff we, do however, have a limited number of positions to be filled by people who can stay as short-term staff. The variety of positions is limited in the winter.
Whatever one’s position on staff, one of our primary ministries is hospitality to all people who step off the bus and into life at Holden. This includes sharing meals with strangers, engaging in conversation, and reaching out to one another through a kind word or deed. Hospitality also includes being a representative of Holden’s ministry in nearby communities while out of the Village and to the mine clean-up workers residing in the Village.
All volunteers receive room and board as well as access to Holden’s acclaimed educational programming. Additionally, enjoy your days off in one of the most stunning wilderness areas of the world!
