Long-Term Volunteer Opportunities

Carpenter at workStaff members form the nucleus of Holden Village’s community. Volunteer staff have a crucial impact on the tone and atmosphere of the Village through their participation in everything Holden has to offer. The essential purpose of volunteer staff is to support Holden’s retreat ministry by cooking meals, cleaning lodges, staffing program areas, maintaining Holden’s infrastructure, and extending Holden’s mission of hospitality to all.

Holden Village needs long-term volunteers (1 year commitment) to support and sustain the core mission and ministry of the Village.  Holden is like a small city in that we staff a wide variety of positions ranging from electrician, mechanic and IT coordinator, to head housekeeper, medic, cook and registrar. Room and board is provided to all volunteers; Holden, also, provides long-term staff with health care coverage and a modest monthly stipend.

Long-term staff positions often serve as supervisors, fulfilling a leadership role by assisting short-term volunteers in their orientation, training, and work in the Village as well as welcoming and integrating them into Village life.

Staff members contribute by serving in additional roles which sustain the operation of the Village. Weekly and monthly Village contributions include: dish team, garbology, stoking rotations. Examples of additional Village contributions include: fire brigade, bus driving, first responder, dish team captain, bulk mailings, assisting with the school, fall inventory, etc.
