Field’s Point Landing Supervisor (Out of Village position)
The down-lake manager lives at 25-Mile-Creek on Lake Chelan 3 miles up from Field’s Point and 19 miles from the town of Chelan. The manager is responsible for hospitality to overnight guests at the Holden Village Bed & Breakfast as well as grounds keeping and concession at Field’s Point parking facility. The manager also provides a vital communications link to the up-lake Holden community. This is a full-time position with a one-year commitment that includes a monthly stipend, food allowance, housing and health care benefits.
Maintains accurate financial records for Holden Village, receives, counts and deposits all revenue; generates payroll, pays all approved bills. Utilizes QuickBooks to post monthly journal entries and generates monthly and quarterly reports. During the winter months, the bookkeeper takes on other responsibilities that assist the business manager. Basic accounting and bookkeeping background preferred. During the winter, the Bookkeeper helps cover in other work areas such as Registration, Bookstore, and Posti.
Responsible for maintaining the ministry of the Holden bookstore through careful and responsible ordering of books, greeting cards, clothing, gift items and sundries. Must have strong organizational skills, ability to lead and supervise staff, a theological and biblical perspective, and a vision of Holden Village that can be exhibited through store items and books ordered for sale.
Supervises all activities related to the Village computer systems. Maintains all equipment; orients and trains others who will be working with computer programs; backs up vital data. Should know how to maintain and troubleshoot a small Windows/Apple network (approx. 25-30 workstations). This person would also manage an integrated, MS Access-based database, with a mailing list and financial giving info for over 10,000 people. Also will assume overall responsibility for the Village Web site and email system. Supports and maintains the Village digital media and learning center and has overall responsibility (along with Media Ministry) for the digital media operation.
Contributions Recorder (1/2 time)
Keeps records of all contributions. Responsible for thanking and corresponding with contributors. Provides regular giving reports. Position requires some knowledge, experience and aptitude of software and computers. Must have organization skills and the ability to handle details.
Responsible for the operation of the Holden Village kitchen during his/her shifts. Supervises kitchen staff of 3-4 persons (winter) or 8-10 (summer). Works with other lead cooks to plan menus and organize food service projects.
Provides guests and staff with the opportunity to explore their creative selves via making crafts materials available or by providing formal instruction of craft projects. Crafts areas include: pottery studio and loom/craft rooms. Supervises craft area volunteers and provides craft classes on a “need” basis, as Village needs vary from season to season. Must be eager to learn new things and unafraid of teaching them with little to no experience. Must enjoy working with people on a one-to-one basis in an active environment. Experience in weaving, warping, knitting, sewing, etc. is a perk but not a “must.”
Overall responsibility for assuring safe, reliable, and code compliant electrical generation, distribution, and building wiring systems. Works closely with utilities coordinator. A journeyman’s or electrical administrator’s certification is required.
Overall responsibility for fostering a safe and accident-free Village and for bringing the Village into compliance with all appropriate workplace and fire/safety regulations. Responsible for the provision and maintenance of Village fire detection, alarm, sprinkler, and suppression systems. Ability to act calmly and rationally in emergency situations is required. Basic knowledge of fire-fighting, plumbing, and electrical systems is helpful.
Overall responsibility for managing solid waste in the Village, including composting, burning, recycling and land filling. Leads rotating teams of Village staff in picking up and sorting the day’s garbage. Encourages the community to reduce, reuse, and recycle. In the winter months the garbologist will spend approximately half their time working on related special projects.
Overall responsibility for maintaining and improving Village buildings and structures. May serve as project manager or may work with project manager to accomplish major building projects Must have a minimum of two years of professional carpentry experience.
Cleans lodges, guest rooms, and program facilities. The job requires some lifting and the ability to move roll-aways between lodges. Housekeepers work mornings in the lodges and help in laundry or snack bar on a needs basis. Good physical condition preferred.
Overall responsibility for transportation of luggage and freight, production of firewood, and manual snow removal. Maintains a crew of workers that assist in other operations tasks as needed. Should be prepared to learn to operate chainsaws, large trucks, and to supervise crews of up to ten volunteers.
The Laundry Head is responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary laundry for the residents of the Village. Daily tasks include washing, hanging sheets to dry, and folding, as well as occasional sewing. The Laundry Head supervises a small staff and must be someone who is self-motivated, organized and efficient.
Assists head mechanic in all their duties. This position is intended for someone who has the desire to learn the mechanic’s trade and the intention of pursuing a career in mechanics.
This position serves as an intermediary between the Holden management team and mine remediation project leaders. Attending safety briefings, tracking worker registrations and housing, record keeping of services rendered, and communicating are main functions of the clerk. Attention to detail required. Excellent communication skills, and ability to relate professionally to diverse group of people.
The musician/worship assistant works with the pastor in leading the worship life of the Village. The worship assistant seeks out and gathers the musical gifts of community members. Excellence in keyboard performance is required.
Provides health care for Village staff and guests on a 24-hour a day on-call basis, implements the nursing process in providing for the ambulatory care and emergency care needs of villagers. Manages all aspects of the first aid station. A current Washington State Registered Nurse license and liability insurance is required along with basic CPR certification. Experience in emergency nursing, ambulatory care, community health, home health, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, nursing education, and school nursing all contribute to preparation for the position. In the winter months the medic spends approximately 50% of working time in another Village position.
Holden Village seeks a pastor to proclaim the Gospel, facilitate daily worship and weekly Eucharist, and serve as a spiritual/theological leader for the Village. The pastor should be ordained on the roster of the ELCA, LCMS, or denominations with which the ELCA is in full communion. An understanding of and commitment to Lutheran theology and traditions in worship is required. The pastor should be an outstanding preacher, and be flexibly creative in worship expression. Competence in pastoral care is also desired. Start: August 2013 for a two-year term. Overall responsibility for maintaining and improving in-building Village water and waste water systems. Supervises the hot tub operations, maintains the plumbing shop inventory, and is on-call for urgent repairs. Basic knowledge of plumbing systems and the ability to work alone is required.
Manages all of the post office duties in the village. Collects, sorts, bundles, and bags the outgoing mail. Sells postage. Sorts and handles the incoming mail. Orders stamps and other mail supplies. This is a half-time position.
Coordinates all printed materials, including, newsletter, brochures and fundraising appeals. Responsible for producing Holden newsletter (mailed 2 times a year) and resource publications, including content development, soliciting articles and photos/graphics, editing and design, working with down lake printers. Also coordinates Holden’s electronic communications. This includes responsibility for website content, formatting and uploading articles and photos, and coordinating periodic mass emails. Qualifications: design/layout, editing and writing skills are essential, as are familiarity with computers, knowledge of or ability to learn Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and basic html.
Responsible for all correspondence with persons seeking to stay at Holden Village. Arranges all reservations for guests, assigns housing for both guests and staff, and coordinates arrivals and departures of all persons (approximately 6,000 per year). Keeps detailed files of guest registrations, money paid, dates requested and number in their party. Welcomes all arriving guests and staff. A helpful and friendly attitude of welcome and hospitality and the ability to keep cool under pressure are musts for this position.
Overall responsibility for keeping Village appliances, electrical equipment, electronic systems, and other misc. items in good repair. Some experience in appliance repair and basic problem solving and trouble shooting ability is required.
Staff Coordinator (2 positions)
Responsible for providing adequate staff personnel in all work areas throughout the year. Corresponds with all inquiries and applicants. Screens and selects persons appropriate for the variety of volunteer positions needed at Holden Village. Important responsibilities include: recruitment, making work assignments, overall coordination of all volunteers, orientation and assistance in integrating them into the Village community. Should have team building resources, organizational skills for good record keeping and correspondence skills.
Assists and backups up the utilities coordinator and the Village electrician in all their duties.
Overall responsibility for the maintenance, repair, and operation of our public water system, our waste water system, and our major heating systems. Works closely with Village electrician. Some previous utility experience and a background in government regulation, computers, engineering, math, and science is desirable. Must be willing to acquire state certifications.
