Spring Work Week 2010 exceeded expectations and surpassed all understanding in its enthusiasm, productivity, and energy. This explosion of labor and conviviality in an atmosphere of gratitude was simply a joy. Even with more snow on the ground on Blitz Day than anytime in recent memory, Holden was transformed once again from a winter to a summer Village. The inch-and-a-half of snowfall Saturday night, even though it melted quickly, gave everyone a final taste of winter.

Bible studies with Pastor Nancy and Paul were all about feasting and tending lambs, and the entire week was a feast. In John 21, Peter thinks he is going back to work as a fisherman. Instead he finds breakfast on the beach, prepared for him by the author of his life. Even so, the work week staff, coming for the primary task of fixing up in their Village, found themselves enjoying together a feast of life.

Holden is a real town that needs to be rescued each year from the throes of the spring melt. This amazing group of people could raise a town from scratch – but the fun is that it’s Holden Village that is being once again dug out, scrubbed clean and dusted off to prepare for the thousands of Villagers who will begin coming up the mountain again in busloads very soon.

As always the number of tasks accomplished was astounding. But it was the spirit of love and trust, friendship and community, that raised this time together to new levels of “casual excellence.” Find a group photo and links to project photos at the Spring Work Week page.
