Advent Around Us
December 22nd, 2010
In addition to the nativity scene described in our last blog, there have been many moving advent tableaus this year at Holden. December 13 marked our annual Santa Lucia celebration, complete with candle-topped wreathed young women and boys bearing candles. The Village children served up plates of Swedish tea rings and coffee for guests and staff.
We celebrated Las Posadas on the 18th with our Holden family from Yakima. Children dressed up as Mary, Joseph and the Angel and carried around wooden carvings of the Holy Family, looking for a place at the Inn. As the tradition goes, most of the innkeepers (stationed at lodge 6, the house house, and the village center) didn’t care about Mary or Joseph, but at our final location, the couple was invited to come inside. In the dining hall, the entire Village celebrated with homemade cookies.
